This year is packed with exciting yuri anime adapted from manga, and This Monster Wants to Eat Me has captured my attention. This thrilling blend of fantasy, action, and dark psychological yuri is one I’ve eagerly awaited to see animated. Unlike typical yuri with cute interactions, this series dives into a darker, more intense narrative. Even with minimal physical contact, the characters’ expressions vividly convey their deep love, making it a must-watch.
The Story
This Monster Wants to Eat Me tells the story of Hinako, an orphaned girl who despises summer because it reminds her of losing her family in a tragic accident. Gloomy and suicidal, she feels trapped in a life she lives halfheartedly, unable to end it. Introverted and distant, Hinako avoids making friends, except for one person, Miko.
One day, overwhelmed by her desire to die, Hinako stares out at the sea. A monstrous creature emerges, intent on devouring her, and in that moment, she hesitates about wanting to die. Suddenly, a beautiful girl with long black hair, Shiori, appears and saves her. Shiori, a mermaid, effortlessly kills the creature.
Shiori reveals to Hinako that she wants to devour her too, but only when Hinako is at her happiest, as that will make her taste better. To achieve this, Shiori stays close to Hinako, protecting her from other monsters that seek to eat her.
The Reason : Must Watch This Anime
The visuals in This Monster Wants to Eat Me are stunning, faithfully adapting the manga’s art style. The animation is smooth, and the characters’ expressions powerfully convey Hinako’s deep depression, setting an emotional tone.
Based on the trailer, this anime promises to be a masterpiece. The story is equally captivating, blending horror-thriller, supernatural, and yuri elements. The mystery surrounding the local folklore of "Yokai"—monsters intent on devouring Hinako—keeps you hooked from start to finish.
Most importantly, the chemistry between Hinako and Shiori is compelling. At first, Hinako is distant, but her heart gradually opens to Shiori, creating a slow-burn romance that’s both intense and unforgettable.
Bonus: The music enhances the experience. The opening theme is captivating, and the background music amplifies the anime’s emotional depth, perfectly complementing its tone.
I can’t wait for the October 2, 2025, premiere!
